New Rapala Mooching Reel

Rapala has been test fishing over the last year, and just about ready to launch their new, machined "North Coast" mooching reel.
Expected retail: 250$

Rapala has outfitted the reel with a screaming drag system for playing the big running fish.
Looks like the reel will be a nice alternative to the expensive islanders, a relatively cheap, high-end mooching reel with a limited selection on the market.

There is also the new shimano mooching reel out, and okuma is also launching a 500$ish reel which is the only reel with right hand-left hand conversion.

Electric Outboards

After doing some research into Chinese copy-cat outboards, i visited one manufacturers website and found they are making electric outboards aswell, which run on a 48volt system from 4 12v batteries wired in series.
Looks like some interesting technology with the potential to grow, which would really be limited by only battery life.
The engines only weight about 65-70lbs, but having 4 batteries will add quite a bit more, but depending on the application and size of boat this may not matter.

New Ford Diesel Engine

Ford announced its new 2011 super duties will have the option of a new, ford built 6.7L diesel motor, the "scorpion". They pride this motor as being the quietest, and one of the most dependable and strongest ever built. Im a ford man, and i hope it does what they say, but only time and a whole lot of miles in the consumers hands will tell that.

Yamahas New Engine Line Up

Sorry this isnt brand new news, but only a couple weeks old still.

Yamaha has a new V6 4-stroke 225-250-300 that is lighter then the current models F225-F250 and is better on fuel. These 4.2ltr engines weight in at 558lbs, and if everything is as they say, it appears these will phase out the current f200-250 series. With the 300 introduced, its going to compete with the v8-300 for sales aswell. The v8 is 5.3L though, so more less hp to displacement should give it alonger lifespan, but several hundred pounds heavier.

New Command Link color LCD multi engine/boat systems display.

New Mid range F70 model. 260lbs. That is significantly lighter then any current 2-stroke or 4-stroke in that HP range.

New security system that will lock up the engines ECM(theft deterrent) Looks like its similar to the same setup the current Yamaha wave runners use.

New 4-stroke Vmax 20"engines(200-225-250) that are lighter then the current HPDI 2-strokes, burn less fuel and get this......they are faster than the 2-stroke! Also all new gearcases.

Yamaha also is introducing a new prop hub system that eliminate the dreaded shift clunk.

New push button engine starting.

RE-introducing the previous F250 mechanical throttle and shift engine.
